Rundoo AI
Last updated 2026-06-15
Rundoo AI is the AI built into Rundoo. In Chat, ask it questions about your store's data in plain English — "what are our top products this month," "how much does Hershey Builders owe us," "which vendors haven't shipped in 30 days" — or have it do work for you: create a new vendor, add a customer, draft a custom price rule. In Agents, set up scheduled jobs that run on their own and text you the results.
In the POS mode, Rundoo AI lives at the bottom of the left sidebar under Analytics. You can also jump in from two entry points in the header: the Rundoo AI sparkle in the top-right, and the Ask AI row at the bottom of any Search result.

What Rundoo AI can answer
Rundoo AI is grounded in your store's data — the same sales, inventory, customers, and AR that power Reports and Dashboards. It's good at questions that would otherwise send you hunting across reports:
-
Sales and revenue — "what were our top 5 products by revenue this month," "how did last month compare to the month before," "what were today's total sales."
-
Product mix — "which departments are growing," "what's our top-selling paint color," "which SKUs haven't sold in 60 days."
-
Customers and AR — "which customers have the highest outstanding balances," "what's Hershey Builders' YTD revenue," "who hasn't bought in 30 days that usually does," "build me a report showing orders and total spend by customer year to date."
-
Inventory and vendors — "which products are understocked," "what should I reorder this week," "which vendors are slow to ship."
Think of it as a shortcut when you know the question but don't know which report to open.
What Rundoo AI can do for you
Rundoo AI can also do work in the store, not just answer questions about it. Ask it to create a record the way you'd ask a coworker, and it goes and does it — then tells you what it did.
-
Vendors — "create a new vendor called Ace Hardware Supply."
-
Customers — "add a new customer for Smith Painting at 555-123-4567."
-
Products — "add a new product: Behr Marquee Eggshell, 1 gallon, SKU BMQE1G."
-
Departments and product categories — "create a new department called Brushes & Rollers."
-
Tags — "add a Wholesale tag to all Benjamin Moore products."
-
Custom price rules — "give Hershey Builders 10% off all paint products."
-
Units of measure — "create a new unit of measure: case of 12."
-
Attachments — "attach this PDF to the Hershey Builders customer record."
For a single create, Rundoo AI just does it and tells you what it created. For destructive or wide-reaching actions — deleting records, changing prices, or modifying more than roughly 10 records at once — it shows you the plan first and waits for your explicit go-ahead before proceeding. Read that preview the way you'd read a sale review before tapping Complete.
While Rundoo AI is working, the chat shows a rotating Dooey icon with a verb ("Thinking…", "Harvesting…", "Marinating…", "Sanding…") and an elapsed counter, so you can see at a glance that it's making progress — not stalled.

Two modes on one page: Chat and Agents
At the top of the Rundoo AI page, a Chat | Agents toggle flips between the two modes the assistant runs in.
Chat is the ask-a-question mode — a live conversation where you type a question and Rundoo AI answers from your data. It's the rest of this Rundoc. Stay here when you want an answer right now.
Agents is where you set Rundoo AI up to run on its own. A morning Daily AI Summary texted to your phone with yesterday's numbers and anomalies, a weekly reorder drafted for your review, a competitor-pricing watch that pings you when a SKU moves. Agents run on a schedule and deliver results without you opening Rundoo. See AI Agents for the full walkthrough — creating an agent, picking a schedule, and the built-in templates like the Daily AI Summary.
Not sure where to start? Common AI workflows is a menu of prompts and agent setups organized by business area — relationships, pricing, inventory — so you can crib one that fits your store.
Asking a question
There are three ways in:
-
The
Rundoo AItab — open POS mode →Analyticsgroup → Rundoo AI in the left sidebar. This is the full chat surface, with every prior conversation saved down the left. -
The Rundoo AI sparkle in the header — top-right, far right of the header action cluster. Same destination, one click from anywhere in the app.
-
Ask AIfrom Search — open the headerSearchoverlay, type a question, and click the Ask AI row at the bottom of the results (or pressEnter). Rundoo AI opens with your question already posted.
Once you're in, the main surface is the two-pane chat. Left pane is your thread list; right pane is the conversation. An empty + New chat starts you on Ask Rundoo AI anything — a single composer with suggested starter questions underneath.

Type your question in the composer — anything you'd ask a coworker who could read every report in the business. Press Enter or click the blue send arrow. Rundoo AI starts typing back within a second or two.
You can also attach files — click the paperclip on the left of the composer to pick one or several, or drag them straight onto the chat.

Reading the response
Rundoo AI answers in a few forms, depending on the question:
-
Natural-language summary. Short paragraphs that answer the question in plain English, with the load-bearing numbers called out in bold.
-
Data tables. When the question asks for a ranked or listed set — top 5 products, overdue customers, etc. — the answer includes a table right in the conversation. Columns match what you'd see in the equivalent Report.
-
Key highlights. A bulleted list at the bottom of longer answers that surfaces the 2–4 things most worth noticing — dominant product lines, outlier sales, margin gaps.
-
Links back to the source. When the answer is pulled from a specific report, Rundoo AI links to it inline ("You can view and explore the full report here") so you can open the full dataset and verify.
Here's what a real answer to "top-selling products this month" looks like — a ranked table of products with units sold, revenue, and margin, followed by highlights and a link to the underlying report.

Rundoo AI's answers are based on your live Rundoo data. That means the numbers change as sales come in — ask the same question tomorrow, the totals will be higher. For anything load-bearing — a number going on a statement, a reorder quantity going to a vendor, a balance you're quoting a customer — open the matching Report or detail page and verify before you act.
Follow-ups and context
Rundoo AI remembers the conversation. Once a thread is going, you can ask follow-ups that reference earlier turns — "same thing for customers," "break that down by location," "which of those are paint products" — and it'll use what came before instead of making you restate it.
If Rundoo AI doesn't have enough context to answer cleanly, it'll ask back — "which location did you mean?", "do you want this for the month-to-date or the last 30 days?", "which customers should I prioritize?" Treat those as a normal back-and-forth: answer the question, Rundoo AI continues.

Each thread is saved to the left pane with an auto-generated emoji and title. Click any past thread to jump back in — you can ask a new follow-up in an old conversation and Rundoo AI picks up where you left off. Start a fresh conversation anytime with + New chat at the top of the thread list.
Limitations
Rundoo AI is new, and it's honest to say where it's still learning:
-
Verify anything that affects a customer or a dollar figure. AI answers are grounded in your data, but the model can still miscount, misinterpret a date range, or round in the wrong direction. A statement balance, a refund amount, a reorder quantity — cross-check against the matching Report or detail page before acting.
-
Complex multi-step questions can drop pieces. "Show me top customers by margin excluding returns, grouped by rep, year-over-year" is a lot to juggle in one prompt. If the answer looks thin or wrong, break the question into smaller pieces — ask for the base list first, then apply one filter at a time.
-
Date ranges are inferred — double-check them. "This month," "last quarter," "recently" all get interpreted on the fly. If the answer cites a range that isn't what you meant, restate it explicitly ("March 1 to March 31, 2026").
-
Some asks belong in a Report. For anything you'll export, share, or run on a schedule — statements, tax summaries, AR aging, P&L — use Running Reports or Custom reports. Rundoo AI is the jump-in-and-ask surface, not the reporting system of record.
-
It doesn't know what isn't in Rundoo. Vendor websites, paper records, emails — anything outside your Rundoo data is out of scope. Rundoo AI will tell you when it can't find something rather than guess.
-
Writes still need a human eye. Rundoo AI executes a clean single create on its own, but it doesn't second-guess your prompt — if you ask it to create the wrong vendor or apply the wrong discount, that's what it'll do. For anything destructive, price-changing, or touching more than ~10 records, it pauses and shows you the plan first; read that preview the way you'd read a sale review before tapping Complete.
If an answer looks wrong, flag it to Rundoo Support — the team uses your flagged cases to sharpen the model over time.
